I have a confession to make.
I cannot fry chicken.
It was something that I have always wanted to learn but Mom always made it so well that there was really no need for me to learn. When I was married, it was decided that we didn’t really need to grease it up with oil and such and then when I lived on my own I was all, “I’m going to eat healthy-ish” also, mom was still making chicken every so often so there was dinners over there and now I am facing a future with no fried chicken.
It’s a tad bleak, however, in Philly, there are quite a few options for chicken that I can get away without knowing how to fry chicken for a little longer.
It’s on my bucket list.
If you’re in the mood for chicken, here are four RnR tested spots.
1 Redcrest Fried Chicken
We shared a review of Redcrest Fried Chicken a few months ago and still agree that chef Adam Volk has a winner! Deliciously seasoned chicken, not too heavy on the salt and very filling.
Redcrest Fried Chicken is located at 1525 S. 11th Street, on the corner of South 11th Street and open from 11 a.m to 10 p.m.
2. Renata’s Kitchen
The chicken and waffles are divine! Crispy and Juicy chicken accompany fluffy waffles. The portions are huge and so filling.
Renata’s Kitchen is located at 4533 Baltimore Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19143
3. Shake Shack
Yes, I am aware that Shake Shack is a burger place but the chicken sandwich is my favorite order. Crispy and tender, juicy and meaty. It’s a simple meal that leaves me satisfied without feeling stuffed.
Shake Shacks have locations throughout the country but our favorite is located in University City, aka West Philly at 3200 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104

4. Bistro 870
I was so shocked to learn that Bistro 870 is in my neighborhood! Chef Yusef and Chef Raheem have created a menu full of flavor and a space that is welcoming and chill in Overbrook. Everything on the menu is filling, portions are huge and the wings…crispy even when tossed with sauce!
